Hot Buttered Applesauce is as good as it sounds. It’s the caramel apple sweetness of applesauce combined with the butteriness of apple pie. If you’re looking for a cozy breakfast, afternoon snack, or dessert, then this hot buttered applesauce is a hit.

It may sound a little wild to add butter to your applesauce, but I promise you it is so good.
I love a sweet breakfast, but I always try to make sure that it’s satisfying, so that’s where the healthy fats from grass-fed organic butter come in.
If you have kids at home, you already know how much they love applesauce and apple sauce pouches.
So today, I’m making our favorite a little more filling and warming with wholesome ingredients like butter and cinnamon.

It’s perfect for apple season, and you can pick up a bushel or peck of apples that are in season. Make extra!
Here’s How To Make Hot Buttered Applesauce
The details:
Step 1: Core, peel, and cut the apples into chunks. I like to use my apple peeler, corer, and slicer from Amazon. Its makes the job go really quickly and I love how old-fashioned it is.
Next, place the apples in a large pot and add the water. I’m a huge fan of Staub enameled cast iron pots.
They last a lifetime and come to a boil faster than any other pot I’ve ever used. Any large pot will work though!
Step 2: Bring the apples and water to a slow simmer over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and cover.
Simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
Step 3: Once the applesauce is thick and the apples are tender, break up any chunks left with a wooden spoon or spatula.
Or if you want to leave it chunkier like an apple chutney, go right ahead.
Step 4: Serve the applesauce hot, topped with butter and cinnamon.
I use good European or Irish grass-fed butter here and Ceylon cinnamon which is great for balancing your blood sugar! Perfect for getting the day started right.
You can also sweeten it more with coconut sugar, maple syrup, or honey if you need a little more sweetness!
