Breakfast Apple Crisp.

The moment apples hit the stands at the farmers market, I immediately feel the need to start making recipes like Breakfast Apple Crisp. It’s the most beautiful, cozy time of year, and I’m ready to start making meals that are warming.

There is nothing that screams apple season quite like apple crisp.

So, to honor the season, I wanted to take what is typically a dessert and make a lighter breakfast version of a classic.

I know you will want to have it on repeat all fall and winter!

Here’s How To Make Breakfast Apple Crisp

The details:

Step 1: Make the topping.

In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup coconut sugar with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.

We will use more coconut sugar and cinnamon within the mix so I wanted to specify how much to use to make the cinnamon “sugar” topping.

Step 2: Make the apple crisp.

Preheat the oven to 350℉. Butter or oil an 8 x8 baking dish or small casserole dish.

I like to use grass-fed, organic butter.

You can use an apple peeler, corer, and slicer to make the job go a 100 times faster. I highly recommend it. You’ll use it time and time again…I know I will.

Step 3:

In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, maple syrup, eggs, salt, cinnamon, coconut sugar, vanilla, nutmeg, and milk.

Stir until fully combined. Then mix in the oats and apples.

You can really use any kind of apple to make this breakfast crisp. I tend to reach for fuji or Granny Smith.

Or do a combination of the two.

Step 4:

Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.

Sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar topping.

Delicious! I did use sprouted oats instead of regular oats like Quaker Oats.. I’d use 2 cups of sprouted oats next time I make it because sprouted oats don’t break down like other rolled oats so it felt like too many oats in a spoonful. I want the apples to come through and all other ingredients that made this recipe taste so delicious 😋. Thank you!
